Selecting Courses
Resident and full-time commuting students will have a full schedule of classes and lectures. While most classes are scheduled during the day, the lecture series and work sessions take place in the evening.

Classes with small enrollments may be cancelled. Students will be notified so they may choose another class.

Core Art Studios (Choose two); Resident and full time commuting students choose two Core Art Studios, held Monday, Wednesday and Friday a.m. and p.m.

Drawing Studio
Approaches the generation of two-dimensional images in a variety of materials and techniques. Charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, and non-traditional media are used. Subject matter includes the human figure, still life, nature and architecture. Emphasizes the human figure as a subject. A variety of drawing materials are addressed.

Painting Studio
Offers an exploration of painting as a means of personal expression, beginning with basic exercises in black and white and continuing with work in color. Assignments may include studies of light and shadow, positive and negative space, landscape, the body, text and other special themes to be announced.

Sculpture Studio
Explores sculptural issues such as: form, abstraction, and human scale, while expanding their technical vocabulary with such tools like mig welders, oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, chop saws, and the machinery of the woodshop. The materials used are generally metal, wood, and plaster.

Electronic Media Studio
Offers and overview of many different media programs, providing framework for realizing multimedia projects. Students learn how to digitally manipulate images, make quicktime movies, create websites, and experiment with simple animation and interactive programming. Programs explored include Photoshop, Image Ready, Premiere, Dreamweaver and Flash.

Mini Art Studios (choose two)- Resident and full time commuting students choose two six-week Mini Art Studios, held Tuesday and Thursday a.m. and p.m.

Ceramic Sculpture Studio
Introduces the use of clay as a sculptural material. Various hand-building techniques are covered. The philosophical issues of ceramic sculpture are addressed. No previous experience working with clay is required.

Printmaking Studio
Investigates a wide range of printmaking techniques: collograph, monotype, dry point etching and intaglio printing. The class focuses on the development of subject matter as well as technique. Each student will develop a portfolio of prints that explore these processes.

Photography Studio
An introduction to the methods and practices of photography including the darkroom. In addition to making photographs, the class explores photographic composition and imagery, film development and printing processes. A 35mm camera is required.

Collaborative Extravaganza Studio
In this unique collaborative experience students will work collaboratively to create a public work that merges ambition with artistry, grand scale with group effort, and innovation with intensity. With ideas developed as an ensemble, students will consider a theme, concept or issue, create preliminary plans, research and gather materials, construct the work, and publicize and celebrate its completion—all the stages involved in the generation and presentation of an artwork with a larger audience in mind. The Sampler
Part-time commuting students may sample a variety of studio offerings this summer by enrolling in the first three weeks of a Core Art Studio or a Mini Art Studio.
