Communication Design
Visual design for the communication of ideas or information. Projects might include explorations in letter form and page layout design, leading to a poster series or booklet; another might involve the process of designing a trademark.

Industrial Design
The visual design of functional articles and products for everyday use. Projects will involve exploration of materials and forms through model making, the analysis of products and study of ergonomic principles.

Drawing
Using natural and mechanical forms as subject matter, focus is placed on structure, shape, point, space, value, gradation, interval, movement and transformation. A variety of visual approaches and media will be explored.

The Computer in Design
The computer will be introduced as a design tool, integrating its image-making capabilities with on-going projects.

Photography
An introduction to the basic black and white photographic process and how it can be controlled as a medium of expression and communication of ideas.

Design Schedule

9 a.m. - noon Studio
1 - 4 p.m. Studio

(Studios will include lectures, individual instruction, critiques and some in-class work time.)
