Art
The
Pre-College Art Program at Carnegie Mellon University introduces
students to the spirit and substance
of the School of Art's undergraduate curriculum. It prepares students
to apply to and work within a college art program. The program includes
a variety of courses to choose from. A group dynamic is encouraged
in all art studios so students can learn in an environment of spirited
discussion, shared ideas and positive criticism.
Points of
Interest
A
Cultural Calendar involves students in the cultural life of Pittsburgh
and the campus. Last summer's activities included trips to the Mattress
Factory, and the Carnegie Museums which includes the Warhol Museum.
The
popular Faculty Lecture Series, is planned for Tuesday evenings during
the program. Slide presentations are accompanied by lively discussions,
energized by refreshments.
A
Portfolio Critique, feedback on your artwork, may be arranged with the
School of Art during the last week of the program. Interviews may also
be scheduled with the Office of Admissions.
The
Annual Student Exhibition is held during Parents' Weekend each year, providing
students with an opportunity to exhibit their work in the College of Fine
Arts.
Faculty
The Pre-College summer faculty is composed of accomplished professional
artists and educators recruited especially for the program. Teaching standards
mirror those maintained in the undergraduate program.
Faculty
write evaluations of student work at the completion of the six-week summer
session.
Materials Fees for Shared Art Materials and
Purchased Art Materials
All purchased art materials come from the Carnegie Mellon Art Store.
Faculty give students a list of art supplies to purchase during the first meeting of Drawing,
Painting and Printmaking Studios. These purchased art materials are put
together in a packet by the Art Store. A separate and reasonable
shared materials fee is charged to students electing Sculpture,
Ceramics, Printmaking, Electronic Media, Collaborative Extravaganza
and Photography Studios.
The Pre-College Program runs from June 27 - August 6, 2004.
Art courses, schedule and fees
are detailed in the courses
section.
"The Pre-College
Art program challenged and stretched my creative abilities further than
I thought possible. I came away from the program with an excellent artistic
foundation and a renewed enthusiasm for art. I am very excited about
the possibility of enrolling in the undergraduate art program!"
